The legs are
flexed and adducted at the hip joint, causing them to cross alternately in
front of each other with the knees scraping together. The knees may be flexed
to a greater degree than normal, and the weight of the body may be taken
primarily on the toes. TH gait is characterized by a narrow walking base.
Scissoring may be caused by retention of the positive supporting reflex or
the crossed extension reflex. Toe
walking may be caused also by the positive supporting reflex. (637)
