The Partnership for People with Disabilities at Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia's only university center for excellence in developmental disabilities, is seeking a coordinator at 1 FTE for the federally funded Virginia Paraprofessional Early Childhood Training Project to enhance the early childhood training program through the Virginia Community College System to include content and competencies in working with children with disabilities. This position has collateral (non-tenure accruing) faculty rank through the School of Education at VCU with state benefits. Anticipated start date is September 25, 2010. A master's degree in early childhood education, in early childhood special education, or in related areas focusing on the early education of children with disabilities is required. Applicants must have experience in the following areas:
- Experience providing professional development activities including teaching at the community college level, and collaborating with professional development providers in the field of early childhood;
- Experience working with early childhood providers at the community level (to facilitate practicum experiences);
- Extensive knowledge of evidence-based practice in working with young children with disabilities and their families, including SpecialQuest Birth-5;
- Proficiency in using word processing, database and spreadsheet software, and web tools to communicate and exchange information; in overseeing multiple activities at one time; in written communication; and
- Experience with project management, data management, and progress monitoring and reporting.
