In most of the articles, strength training and walking programs improved function, with particular success seen in walking programs. The evidence also suggested that other functional activities such as chair-rise and staircase climbing seemed to improve among elderly persons who engaged in aerobic and resistance exercise programs. However, the evidence regarding the effects of exercise in minimizing disability was inadequate. There were conflicting results between the prospective studies and the experimental studies. Several prospective studies showed better results in improving disability as compared to experimental studies.
